Level 9-12 Orc Hunting Ground

I was just walking around and accidentally fell into this spot filled with level 8-10 monsters. They are stronger than Rakeclaw Imps and Goblin Grave Robbers. I have been hunting here for quite some time and only 1 person came by and hunted with me. So take this spot to your advantage if you are level 9-11 and find killing imp and goblins lacking the exp you deserve!

This spot IS in Orc Land so best if you are an Orc. This is the location on the map on where the spot is located.

Lineage 2 Adena

There are only three types of monsters there: Kasher Timber Wolf, Rakeclaw Imp Hunter, and Mushrooms.

Lineage 2 Adena Lineage 2 AdenaLineage 2 Adena

Be cautious of the imp and fungus, they both will help out if one of them are attacked nearby. The highest level is the fungus, than the imp, than the wolf.

Vendor Pricing

If you have ever traveled from one village to another you may realize that some have lower prices on items and some may have higher. Vendor pricing is usually based on how far the village is from starting areas and how secluded they are. To understand how the vendors price the items there are a few things you need to know:

-Every item has a base price that never changes

-Each village will markup this base price by certain percentages (ex. all starting villages have a 15% markup from the base price)

-Villages that have castles will experience an additional markup (default is +5% EX: the Gludin markup is +15% and +5% of castle tax making it 20%)

-If a castle is controlled by a clan, the castle tax can be increased

The following is the current % markup of items base prices:

VillagesMarkupCastle Tax
Starting Villages15%5%
Gludin Village15%5%
Floran Village15%5%
Gludio Village15%5%
Dion Village15%5%
Oren Village15%5%
Ivory Tower15%5%
Hunter's Village30%Most expensive location

EX:

Base PriceStartingGludioHunter's
Markup0%15%20%30%
Forest Bow136,000156,400163,200176,800

Now when you go to sell your items to the shop, the shop will give you 50% of the base price of the item...EX: Forest Bow 136,000a x .5 = 68000a

So why is this information helpful to you?

1. you know which village to buy fromt that has the least % of markup when buying items (especially useful when marking them up yourself and reselling)

2. You understand the shop pricing mechanics of the game

3. You can use these equations to determine the prices you sell your items at

I hope this guide is somewhat helpful to those wondering about vendors and want to save and make money!

5 Basic Lineage 2 Adena Making Tips

Basic Mob Hunting

You'll normally collect more adena if you were to hunt solo rather than grouped. The amount collected is usually less unless your character is really gimp and are unable to solo mobs on its own. Ideally you should target gree/blue con mobs. Although they give you much less SP they do provide a good amount of adena for the time you would take to kill them. Make sure the mobs you are farming are not too tough and that you do not have much downtime. If you are caster, assure that you're able to kill the mob with out having to use too much power. If you're a tank, try not to lose too much life or you will end up sitting majority of the time you are farming. Find areas where there are less players and is loaded with mobs. Having to wait for respawns can waste alot of time. You also do not want to run into too many players farming the same mobs as you, hence it'll reduce the amount of mobs for you to farm. Avoid using soulshots as well, they can cost alot of money and should only be used when you're in danger of dying.

Questing

There are some quests that are actually worth doing but here are some basic questing tips you should keep in mind while completing them. Always try to complete the quests that provides the highest amount of rewards for adena and/or offers a very valuable item. Always accept quests that involves killing alot of monsters. It helps you level along with some good loots from time to time. You can also combine certain quests if they are within the same area, being able to complete multiple quests within the same route is much better than completing them seperately. Avoid traveling long distances because they take up alot of time, travelling time can be converted to farming time. Always keep a "scroll of escape" around. Good to use when in danger and good to save yourself time from travelling long distances.

Drops

There are many mobs that have good drops, but that doesn't mean you should solely focus all your time on them. Drop rates are by chance and chances are you will spend more time killing them for nothing than actually being able to get that specific item. However, if you are farming an area with a bunch of mobs and there are some with good drops you would of course choose to hunt those first before the rest.

Buying and Selling

Avoid buying from NPC merchants. They usually tend to cost more than buying from another player in the game. If you are planning to purchase a new set of equipment or any other item, buy them from Giran. Taxes there are only 10% and when you buy in large amounts you tend to save alot more. Do not sell off your loots immediately. Try to find the best bargen for them. Look around for players who are spamming "WTB...". They tend to offer a higher price than normal since they probably have important use of it. Private stores can be one of your biggest assets in the game. You can easily browse through a wide selection at various prices, although it may lag alot but sometimes it can be worth the time spent. You may also want to setup your own store as well when you want to sell off your items. Would be ideal when you go AFK for a long period of time or planning to go to sleep. Don't start your store and stare at the screen though, that's just silly and a waste of time. Avoid selling more than 3 items at a time, set price 5-10% below shop price. You should be able to get a good return within 1-2 hours.

Travelling Merchants

If you have extra adenas laying around and you tend to travel a bit for whatever reason, you can be a travelling merchants. Getting to Giran can take a while and lot of players would rather not travel there to purchase stuff unless neccessay. You can always buy a stock full of some items that are demanded within certain areas and sell them off at a higher rate than being sold at Giran. Arrows, healing potions and soulshots are commonly bought items throughout the game. Ideal to stock up a bit on those and setup a store in caves or where ever when you need to go AFK. From time to time if you know the market well enough, there are players who are in desperate need of adena and will sell their item at a much lower price than normal. You can easily buy that and resell later at a higher rate.

Lineage 2 Magic Coin Quest

Start at: Hunter's Village

Level Required: Level 40 Minimal

Part One: Starting the Quest

To start this quest off, you must talk to Warehouse Keeper Sorint (Northwest side of Hunter's Village). Once you accept the quest, Sorint will send you to the Union President Bernard (Center of the Hunter's Village between the two bridges) to get the Kaldis Coin for him. Bernard will tell you that he does not have the coin. After talking to Bernard, you must head southeast to near the Angel Waterfall. You will get the Kaldis Coin after killing a couple of Harit Lizardmen Matriarchs. This monster will be around the road just slightly west of the Angel Waterfall. Be careful of this monster. It is level 55 and aggressive (it will attack you if you get too close to it). It might be best to get a few friends to help you kill it. You must get the last hit on the monster though to have any chance of getting the coin. Once you have the coin, go back and talk to Warehouse Keeper Sorint. DO NOT TALK TO UNION PRESIDENT BERNARD WHEN YOU GET THE COIN. He will give you a small amount of adena for the coin and all your work will have been for nothing. Once you talk to Sorint, go through all the talk and you should find yourself a Lever 3 Member of their Coin Collecting Guild. Now you will be able to collect coins which can be exchanged for better coins and then exchange those coins for reward items. To see the list of items you will be able to redeem the coins for, talk to Warehouse Keeper Sorint.

There are three types of coins that you can receive from killing monsters. All three are the lowest coins and certain amounts of these must be exchanged to certain people for better coins if you want to receive items.

Here is a list of coins that drop off monsters and what monsters will drop:

Silver Unicorn Coins

  • Ol Mahum: Level 53 Aggressive - Found South and West of the Border Outpost

  • Mahum Warrior: Level 54 Passive - Found South and West of the Border Outpost

  • Formor: Level 45 Passive - Found Northwest of the Ivory Tower

  • Formor Elder: Level 51 Passive - Found Northwest of the Ivory Tower

Gold Wyvern Coins

  • Shackle: Level 45 Aggressive - Found in the circle of the Ivory Tower and near the center of Death Pass

  • Timak Orc Shaman: Level 44 Passive - Found around the Ivory Tower outside the circle and Northeast of the Ivory Tower.

Blood Medusa Coins

  • Timak Orc: Level 40 Passive - Found slightly east of Oren Castle just past the river.

  • Timak Orc Archer: Level 41 Passive - Found around the Ivory Tower outside the circle.

  • Timak Orc Soldier: Level 42 Aggressive - Found around the Ivory Tower outside the circle.

Here is also a list of people who you are able to exchange coins with, though many will only exchange coins with you are a level 2 or level 1 member of the Coin Collector's Guild (level 3 members are lowest and Level 1 members are highest):

  • Magister Page: Southwest side of Hunter's Village (Elven Mage Trainer) - Will trade with level 3 members and above.

  • Researcher Lorain: Entrance to Cruma Tower - Will trade with level 3 members and above.

  • Warehouse Keeper Hagger: East side of Oren - Will trade with level 3 members and above.

  • Guard Stan: Southern Gate of Oren - Will trade with level 2 members and above.

  • Ralford: Basement of the Ivory Tower - Will trade with level 2 members and above.

  • Head Blacksmith Ferris: Southeast side of Aden - Will only trade with level 1 members.

  • Warehouse Keeper Collob: Southeast side of Giran - Will only trade with level 1 members.

  • Grocer Pano: Center of Floran Village - Will only trade with level 1 members.

To attain a higher level membership, you must collect and give Warehouse Keeper Sorint certain coins.

To attain level 2 member status, you must give Warehouse Keeper Sorint:

  • 1 Blood Werewolf Coin

  • 1 Blood Dre Vanul Coin

  • 1 Gold Drake Coin

  • 1 Gold Knight Coin

  • 1 Silver Fairy Coin

  • 1 Silver Golem Coin

To attain level 1 member status, you must give Warehouse Keeper Sorint:

  • 1 Silver Dryad Coin

  • 1 Silver Undine Coin

  • 1 Blood Basilisk Coin

  • 1 Blood Succubus Coin

  • 1 Gold Giant Coin

  • 1 Gold Wyrm Coin

Part Two: Collecting the Coins

From what I have seen, the best place to collect coins would be the Ivory Tower area. This area spawns several different monsters that will drop all three types of coin. The Timak Orc Soldiers will drop Blood Medusa Coins very often. Gold Wyvern Coins will drop once in awhile from the shackles in the circle of the Ivory Tower. Silver Unicorns will also drop fairly often, though not frequently, off the Formors and Formor Elders. Though I have not tried fighting the Ol Mahum and Ol Mahum Warriors, I have heard from them that they will drop Silver Unicorn Coins a bit more often than the Formors/Elders.

Lineage 2 Hints & Tips

Here are some quick hints & tips which you can use to better your Lineage 2 gameplay:

First off, read our Guide Against Lineage 2 Scams so that you'll be well aware of all the devious scams going on in game and won't get caught in one.

Interface:

  • If your character appears to "fall through the world", this can be corrected by restarting to the character selection screen and logging back in.
  • Using ALT+TAB while in the game may cause problems, do not use it.

Trade:

  • Always check the color of private store messages. Purple means 'Selling', yellow means 'Buying'.
  • Do not drop an item unless you are willing to risk losing it forever.

Items:

  • If you have three swords, one of which is enchanted, the blacksmith will randomly combine any two of them when making dual swords.
  • To retrieve your items from freight, visit the exact same Warehouse NPC with the character to whom you sent the freight.

Pets:

  • Be careful not to hit "Dismiss" unless you want to get rid of your pet forever.
  • To feed your pet, drag the pet food into the pet's inventory and then double-click on it.

PvP:

  • If you are killed by your opponent outside the PvP arena after fleeing from a duel, normal death rules will apply.
  • Many special attack skills do not work on clan members, party members or white players.

Quests:

  • Players can have up to fifteen quests at once.
  • Most quests are repeatable though some are not.

Skills:

  • Creatures you have summoned with crystals will disappear when you die or log out.
  • Although Fake Death can sometimes deter monsters, players can still hit you.

Clans:

  • Clan members must wait five days before joining a new clan once they are evicted or withdraw from their previous clan.
  • Clan crests will not be displayed until your clan is level three.

Lineage 2 Guide Against Scams

(Disclaimer: The names have not been changed to protect the guilty!)

Introduction

Greetings everyone! My name is Zmokin and I reside on Sieghardt. 'Tis there that I have been running a store since open beta called ZmokinsStore. I have entertained many players with my crazy ads during their boring farming times and have set up shop almost anywhere a level 4 shop could go.

My store typically runs during the day whilst I'm working, as well as most of the night. Since I am self-employed, I get to watch my store on the computer next to me all day long and have seen a lot of interesting things along this journey. More importantly, I've had a front row seat to basically every type of scam we've seen. Now mind you, although I have been known to take advantage of a supply shortage now and then, I have never run a scam and I never will. It's just not my style - I don't like getting scammed and I don't like scamming others.

So what exactly is a 'scam'? Well, let's see what the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary has to say:

Pronunciation: 'skam

Function: noun

Etymology: origin unknown

: a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation <an insurance scam>

So there you have it! The key word here is 'deceptive'. It's quite simple actually - any time you are trying to 'screw' somebody, you are scamming! Hence you are a scammer!

As players level up and money gets tighter, their high-end requirements drive their imagination (or sometimes lack of), to come up with ways to quickly and easily make money. Unfortunately, due to the ease of anonymity, most of these hair-brained ideas are in the form of one scam or another.

Typical scammers will create an alternate character for their scams (wouldn't want to tarnish our main's character now would we) and will transfer their ill-gotten items to their main character(s). Once you see their toon fade in front of your shocked eyes, you can be sure that is the last you have seen of them - and your goodies/money.

What is NCsofts position on scams?

Basically you're SOL! Creating a petition complaining about the scam will get you nowhere. The GMs will tell you that this is a PvP game and that it is a 'buyer-beware' environment. Essentially, it is up to the community to clean itself much as it is in your real-life neighborhood.

The controversy over the Terms of Agreement and NCsofts role in enforcing them or trying to cut down on the scams continues throughout the forums. But until such time that NCsoft deems it necessary to step in, you are on your own.

How do I protect myself from scams?

All scams rely on you being in a hurry, not paying attention, trusting strangers, or simply not being informed about the game. Quite frankly, the only way to protect yourself is to use common sense and not be greedy! If the deal seems too good to be true, then it usually is!

For example, unless you physically know the person or have played with them for a long time (as in years) do not be stupid enough to hand your sweet-looking weapons over to them so they can see how good they 'look' with those weapons.

Yes, I said stupid. It's a harsh word, but it fits the bill. Because once you've been scammed, you'll be banging your head against that keyboard yelling "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" Seriously, would you hand over your car keys to a stranger to let them see how they look driving your car? I don't think so, yet for some odd reason, many people do exactly that within the game.

The golden rule in this game is: Use Common Sense and Trust No One!!

"I've never been scammed! Only Newbies fall for scams!"

Oh, I've seen this many times over the chat. Well goody goody for you! You must be the smartest player in the world and I'm glad I've had the opportunity to hear you brag - not! I have seen the most seasoned players fall to scams for one reason or another. As for myself, yep, I have too. But that was a hearty lesson and I haven't fallen again. It only took this old fool one time to learn to use common sense.

Technically, the third part of the above statement is true. If you have never encountered a particular scam before, you are in fact, a 'newbie' to that scam. Unlike many other games, Lineage II provides a unique opportunity for players to set up individual shops. Unfortunately, this also provides a unique opportunity for new scams too. And for those folks who have never played an online game before, it usually doesn't take long for them to learn that players aren't like npcs, they have one big fault - they're human!

The fact is, many scams do work and they will continue to flourish as long as we don't do anything about it. So if you don't need a scam guide, then you really shouldn't have read this far now?

The Scams

So let's get on with the list, right? The scams are in no particular order - just as I thought of them and jotted them down. If I see there is some correlation, I might organize them better.

This guide is a collection of the most common scams I've seen and although I have seen different threads about scams and scammers, there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive guide from what I can see. Granted, there will be some that I have missed or forgotten about, but this should get you started. I am not including bugs or exploits, because they don't rely on the faults of human nature.

When possible, I've tried to show screenshots and also give advice as to how to avoid them.

  1. "Oops, I hit the wrong button"

Someone is willing to sell you that nice item you've been seeking for a good price. Up pops the trade window and you check out the item and boy does it look nice! You place the required adena in the trade window and click ok. All of a sudden the trade is canceled!

    "What gives?", you say.

"Sorry, I hit the wrong button. Try again please." comes the reply.

    "OK. No Problem.", you say.

Up pops the trade window again with your item and you place your adena in there one more time. This time the trade goes through, the player thanks you and takes off.

As you happily open your inventory and look for your new item, you realize you can't find it! Instead there is a similar looking one, but it is a cheapy one! Bingo!! You've been scammed!

Common Sense Alert! This scam relies on your trust of another player and your lack of common sense to double-check the item the second time around. Unfortunately, Lineage II uses similar looking, or in some cases, the same icons for different items. I suppose they are working hard to change this, but until they do, be sure to always re-inspect the item before clicking that OK button.

  2. "Help Me! Help Me!!

I used to love watching this one! I also call this one the "Azer" scam because no one could pull it of as good as he could on Seigehardt. I would be sitting on the steps of the EF (Elven Fortress) bored out of my gourd with my little shop and Azer would come along. I instantly knew we were in for a show!

Sure enough, a short time later I would hear Azer yelling as loud as he could as he came running out of EF with the longest train of Skellies you'd ever see!!

"Help me!! Help me!!", he would shout! "Will someone please help me!!"

Soon you would see a brave young warrior come along. "Hang on, I'm coming!!" he would say as he swung his mighty sword at the last skeleton in the train. As he bravely swung his heart out, Azer would circle his train around the warrior, who would attract the skeletons due to his fighting. Within seconds, this brave - but naïve warrior, would be swarmed with more skeletons then he will see in his short life. Soon his lifeless body lay on the ground and low and behold, so was that mighty sword of his! The mighty warrior was no more - and neither was his sword! For Azer would scoop it up in one quick swoop and off he went in search for the next fool, er, I mean brave warrior!

Of course, that was the plan all along. You see, Azer was such a high level that these Skeletons would barely scratch him. He knew however, that most folks hanging around the EF were high enough to feel cocky about taking on few skeletons, but low enough that any more than a few would overwhelm them. Of course, the chance of something good falling off the hapless player when he died is what Azer was hoping for.

I've seen several others run that scam before in different areas, but none as well as Azer. A variation of that scheme is that the scammer will sometimes stun the person 'helping' just to speed things along. Although Azer was an orc, I never did see him try that - not to say that he may not have done that on occasion.

The funny thing is, even though I would put warnings out about this scam, there were still plenty of players willing to "Save the day!"

Common Sense Alert! If the player yelling for help isn't already dead with that many mobs on his arsch, you can bet he is trying to pull a fast one. Unless you are absolutely sure that you can take on that many mobs, stay away from the train and whatever you do, don't hit one of the mobs! They will swarm on you like flies on - oh you know what I mean!

  3. Buy Low, Sell High!

So there you are in Gludio perusing the many stores for anything good. There's a lot of stores tonight and a lot to window shop. Hmm, this guy wants to buy a Bullhorn for 40k adena. Didn't I just see a guy selling one for 30k?

Let me see if that's still for sale. Woot!!! It is! Sweet, that will be a quick 10k profit there! I better get this before anyone else notices it. So you quickly buy the Bullhorn wringing your sweaty little hands.

Cool, now let me go sell it to that other guy real quick! So you hurry over to the Buy shop and start the transaction. You click on ok and nothing happens. WTH? Why won't he buy it? You try several more times but to no avail. Suddenly it hits you like no Mayhem Commander could - you've just been scammed. This buy shop doesn't have the money to pay for the Bullhorn and never intended to!

Well, maybe you can sell it to reclaim some of your money back. So you head over to the shop to check out its price. OMG!! The scam just got worse - this thing is only worth 300 adena!!

Common Sense Alert! This scam requires two people to pull off, one that sells a worthless item for a high price and another who advertises that he wants to buy this same worthless item for even more. It relies both on your greed as well as on your lack of knowledge of the item.

The thing that got you in trouble here was your greed. Hopes of a quick profit prevented your common sense from kicking in and doing your homework!

Your first rule of common sense is to know what the item is really worth to begin with. Either check the shop or do a quick shout out for a price check. Whatever the item is that they are using to scam with, you can bet it won't be worth much since their goal is to make as much as possible.

  4. I or l? or "Hey - that's my name!"

As your walking through Gludio checking out the shops, you see a scam being set up. But while looking at the name of the scammer, you realize it's your name!! Someone has somehow used your name and is tarnishing your reputation by scamming other players.

How has this person been able to duplicate your name? What happened is that the scammer has duplicated your name using a common problem among games. Many games use a basic font that causes the lowercase L (l) to look exactly like the uppercase i (I) - much like this Ariel font does. Lineage also uses such a font which makes it easy for other players to impersonate/duplicate player names.

If your name is something like "KillBill", then other players have several different ways to duplicate your name. For example, KiIlBill or KillBiII. Can you see the difference? Hmmm, well if you can't tell the difference, how are other players going to?

The following is a picture I found in a forum thread lamenting about this problem:

    Clone Shop

Notice how the "clone" also took on the same race and looks of the original player. They even went so far as to imitate the clan name.

Once they have duplicated your name, they can wreak havoc upon your characters reputation as they run their scams in your name. Heck, if they've done their homework, they may even know some of your trusted friends and could be deceiving them out of their stuff too!

Common Sense Alert! It's a bit harder to protect yourself from this particular scam since it is inherent in the system. One way of course, is to exact your revenge on that player by hounding/PKing them until they give up the toon.

However, assuming that is not an option (the doppel-ganger will usually remain safely inside a village), you can prevent these doppel-gangers in the first place by creating the duplicate names yourself so that each variation of your name is taken. Obviously this will use up several of your character slots so you may not have/want this option.

  5. Not your Average Dark Screamer!

Scanning through the stores in town, you come across a Dark Screamer that you've been looking for. Having searched for days and not seeing one, you jump at the opportunity and quickly buy the dagger before someone else does. As you open your inventory to equip that shiny new weapon, you realize that you do not see it. Instead there is a cheap old Doom Dagger staring at you!

    Doom Dagger

In your haste you did not take the time to double-check the item before pressing that OK button.

Notice in the screenshot how the store advertises a Dark Screamer for sale?

But a quick look inside the store tells the true story - a cheap Doom Dagger is priced high enough in hopes you will not be paying attention.

Of course, they throw in a legitimate item first so that the scam item doesn't get all the attention.

Common Sense Alert! This scam takes advantage of the duplicated icon issue in Lineage and relies on your not paying attention to what you are buying. Because the Doom Dagger uses the same icon as the Dark Screamer, it makes for an easy store scam. Always inspect the item you are buying before clicking that OK button.

  6. Soul Ore does not equal D-Crystals!

Similar to the previous scam, this one relies on folks not paying attention to what they are buying. Instead of using a weapon or armor, it uses the much sought after D-crystals to lure you in. Advertised for a cheap price, they can reel you in like a fish.

I lost my screen shots for this scam, but basically, the icon for D-Crystals is the same as the Soul Ore. So once again these make good scam items.

Common Sense Alert! Same as the previous scam. It takes advantage of the duplicated icon issue in Lineage and relies on your not paying attention to what you are buying.

  7. Join our Clan!!!

You send out some shouts asking to join a clan. Soon, a player contacts you asking if you would be interested in their clan. You ask few questions and it sounds like a decent group, so you say sure.

After a day or so of joining the clan, you are asked for some adena so that the clan can advance to the next level. The amount requested ranges from a few thousand to tens of thousands - depending on how much is needed.

Of course you are willing to help your clan out, after all, that's what clans are supposed to do, right? So you pay your 40k adena to a clan officer and go about your merry way. The next day you log in and notice that your clan tag is missing! In fact, you can't use the clan chat or see any clan related activity! After frantically searching around for other members or doing shouts, you realize something - you've been had!

Or maybe they didn't ask for money. Instead, they offered to 'upgrade' your equipment by exchanging what you have with better stuff from another member or the clans 'inventory'. Of course, the concept is the same. Once they have your equipment they take off and you never hear from them or the clan again!

Common Sense Alert! This scam relies on your trust of other players. It requires at least one player creating a clan and then soliciting for members. After they request and receive some monies/equipment, they delete the clan and go on their merry way! As said before, trust no one that you haven't played with for a long time.

There are many clans in Lineage and just like in any other games, there are some reputable ones and not so reputable ones. If you are interested in joining a clan, be aware that there are several scams going about with this.

  8. Let me upgrade your weapons!!

You've been playing with John Doe player for quite a while now and have a good feeling from him. In fact, he has given you quite a lot of stuff over the past few days and is a really nice guy.

Now he has offered to upgrade your weapons so you give him your weapons in eager anticipation of what is to come. He say's he'll be right back so you wait. And wait and wait!! You try to send him a message but you get no response. Now you are getting worried. As time goes by and you neither hear from nor see him, it begins to sink in - you've been scammed. Mr. Nice Guy has actually turned out to be Mr. Wrong!

Common Sense Alert! As usual, this scam relies on your trust of other players. The player will earn his/her trust for a little while and when they think you are completely vulnerable, they spring the trap. After they request and receive your equipment, they disappear.

  9. Pink=Sell, Yellow=Buy!

You desperately need some D grade SS and SpS since you are running low. As you rummage through the stores, you see that hardly anyone is selling any and those that are charging a lot. "Aha! Here's a store selling them really cheap". So you quickly open the store and check the price, see the price as advertised and buy a thousand.

As you click on the OK button, a sinking feeling hits you in the gut - this is a yellow store! You just sold a thousand to that store for their advertised cheap price. Not only did you lose your items, you also lost money since you sold them at such a low price!

    Buy Scam Buy Scam

    Buy Scam

This is a very popular scam and has various flavors, the most common being that they advertise low ss or sps.

Common Sense Alert! Again, your haste and greed keep these stores operating. By not thinking clearly, you completely overlook the fact that the store label says "Buy". And even worse, the store label is yellow which should tell you right then to stay away! As always, if the deal seems too good to be true - it usually is!

  10. "I quit!! You can have my stuff!!"

"I guess this poor guy has had enough of the game, I should check to see what he's giving away. After all, I could use some new stuff and worst case I could sell his stuff. What a generous person, giving their stuff a way so cheap!"

As you open the store, you see an Elven Bow listed for just one adena. "Hmm, I've already got one, but this is a 700k item - I can make a few quick adena with this!"

Lineage 2 Scam Lineage 2 Scam

Lineage 2 Scam Lineage 2 Scam

Yeah, right! Go ahead and click on that OK button - if you want to sell your item for one adena that is!!

Common Sense Alert! This is another one of those scams that relies on greed. There are four clues that tell you this is a scam. If you miss all four and still end up selling your stuff to this scammer, then I'm sorry - you deserve it! First, the store label says BUY! Two, it's a yellow store - it BUYS! Third, notice some of the items in the store are grayed out? It's a buy store and you don't have some of the items for it to BUY. And finally, NO ONE gives their stuff for free to a stranger!

  11. Read, Read, Read!!

You're on the way to the Ruins, but you need to get some SS/SpS real quick. There's someone selling some for the normal price. You open the store and see that there are enough in stock, so you select a thousand and click OK.

A small message pops up say something about the price, but you're in a hurry so you click OK and head on out. As you check your inventory, you see you only have a few on hand and not the thousand or so you had bought. Instead, your money has been depleted!!

Lineage 2 Scam Lineage 2 Scam

    Lineage 2 Scam

She may be cute, she may be cuddly, but she's still a scammer!! Can you see the scam? Notice the quantity (the top number) is made to look like the price, and the price (the bottom number) is made to look like the quantity!

Common Sense Alert! Once again, these scams rely on your haste and laziness to double-check what you are buying. They are also hoping on some newbies still unfamiliar with shops to get confused between the quantity and pricing lines. Always double-check the price. A simple method is to retrieve a quantity of one and see what the cost would be in the lower section of the store window.

  12. Get rich quick! Buy your Adena via Ebay or e-mail!

So you're getting tired of the grind are ya? All those darn farmers and everyone else is getting all that pretty shiny new equipment that they are using to level so quickly. Well, if you bought a few million via ebay or e-mail, you could buy all the equipment you need!

So you rush to Ebay to see what's available. You find a good price, place your order and wait. And wait, and wait and wait! No one comes to deliver the adena! So you go back to Ebay and find that account is no longer there. Frantically, you search around to no avail. You've been had!!

A quick search on Ebay reveals plenty of opportunities!

    E-Bay Scam

But in-game advertising is also plenty:

Adena Scam Adena Scam Adena Scam

Common Sense Alert! I'm not sure what NC Softs position is on Ebay sales. I thought I read at one time that they are against the terms of agreement, but if so, they are not doing much to enforce it. So once again, the desire to get the best equipment and the lack of initiative to farm can lead you to a quick loss of money. However, unlike within the game, where losing money to a scam doesn't have any real-life consequences, these scams actually cost you real-life dollars!!

Granted, there are those that will actually deliver, but who is to say which ones are legit? Don't be lazy, play the game the way it was meant to play and quit trying to take those shortcuts!

Conclusion

As you can see, the number and types of scams are quite high. Since this game relies so heavily on your equipment status, getting the adena to buy all those expensive items is a high priority. There will be more scams around the corner and more folks to fall for them.

Although some issues could be resolved by NCsoft such as the duplicate icons, in the end, only you can prevent yourself from being scammed.

It's all very simple, take your time to read the store labels carefully, and above all, don't get greedy! Greed is a bad emotion and can lead you to do some very stupid things on a spur of the moment.

Lineage 2 Elven Mystic Guide

This Elven Mystic Guide was the 2nd Place Winner in our Lineage 2 Guide Contest

Lineage 2 Elven Mystic - Elven Wizard Guide

(Covers levels 1-20)

Note: This guide was created for people without any experience with Lineage 2 at all, the first few chapters explain Lineage 2, so if you already know the game, I would recommend skipping to chapter 3.

Elven Mystic Guide

Chapter 1 (Making your character)

So, I suppose you are new to this game. Now, don't be overwhelmed by this game. There is much to learn, but it will be easy!

First of all lets start up your game (I expect you already went through registration.). Now, once it's loaded use your login information (Username, Password). It should come up with a server select screen. If you have friends playing, then select the server they play on because you can't change to another available server. Once you have selected an appropriate server for you, select it and double click. You should now be in a "character selection screen". Except, there is one major problem! You have no characters! Well, that's easy to fix. Just click create character at the bottom right of the screen. Now, the screen should change to the "human" race. We will change this by clicking the right arrow beside race. Click on it until it appears to say Elves (because this guide is for Elven Mystics). Now under class, select mystic, however I am not exactly sure it might say "mage". In Lineage 2, you get to select two classes at first, warrior or mage. Once you reach level 20, these character classes branch off into more classes, and then at 40, branch into even more classes. There are some cool classes to choose from at level 40. But, we have to grind our way up to that level! So, pick a name for your character yet? Good. Now, change his hair and facial features a little bit. Ready? Good. Time to play. Onto the next chapter! (Gee, this was a small chapter.)

Chapter 2 (The world, the controls, the first kill!)

Well, now that the character is in the world, its time to learn the game. It's good to always follow the tips that the game is giving you if you are new. I recommend that you do. But, in this guide I will be going into more detail about how exactly to do these things the guide is telling you to do. First of all, the first thing we want to learn is the menus which become vitally important that you know. As a mage, wearing robes make u cast twice as fast, this is why they are limited to wearing robes. Now, our character right now is naked. No weapon, no equipment whatsoever. However, we do have equipment in our inventory. Select at the bottom right of the screen, Inventory (HotKey alt+v or tab, I use tab to access my inventory.) Now, get familiar with this window as it is important that you do. Right click on the gear in the inventory, and it should be equipped. Equip everything you can. Now, we look slightly better, but still, not that cool.

Ok, whatever, time to kill something. Wait! Don't kill anything yet! I'm not finished. We now need to learn how we "bind" our magic to the f1-f10 slots. Sound complicated? Not at all, have you looked at the right of your screen yet at the box with numbers 1 to 10 on it? Well, that's were our magic will be going. Open up your status menu (Button at bottom left of the screen just before inventory.). The first menu that appears is your status obviously, your skill points, level, damage, defense, etc is all displayed here. You will be checking your skill points often to see how many you have. Now, at the top of the menu you should have "tabs" to select. Select the actions tab first. We will be equipping simple actions that every race, character gets. In this menu there should be a lot of little squares, each time you click on one of these it does the appropriate action. We only want two for now in this menu. Hold down on the pickup action, and try dragging it until it reaches the black slot on the right that says "1" on it. There, now whenever we press f1, our character will try and pickup anything nearby. Now, drag sit/stand to the f10 key. Well, my young padawan, I believe it is time to teach you how to put magic on the f1-10 keys. At the top of the status window, there should be a third one that says magic. There should be all your available magic in there, at the moment it is only 2 skills we can use. Don't worry, mages get an incredibly strong skill for their level at first. The magic skills we have are called self heal and wind strike. Drag self heal to the slot numbered 5 so that whenever we want to heal we can press f5. Drag the wind strike button over to "2" slot so that f2 makes us fire a bolt of wind at the enemy. If at any time you feel confused by these steps, you can always check back and read this again.

Now, we are familiar with the menus, time to run around, I suppose you needn't worry in a place like this, but always keep your watchful eye on other players, because the player killing system is rather loose and you can die almost anywhere, remember, people who kill you without you fighting back go red and have a much higher chance of loosing their gear. Some people feel that pking is all the fun in the game; others just want to kill monsters. It's your choice, but of course, you need to kill monsters to level up :P.

I suppose while you were walking around you noticed that the tip thing displayed a message telling you to see a guard of Nerupa or something like that. Well, its time to do that. Walk out from wherever you are towards the bridge that goes into town, but before you go up the bridge go towards the giant tree, and then you should see a weird looking figure named Nerupa, well, don't visit it, speak with one of it's guards. The guard will tell you to kill a certain amount of wolves in the area and collect fangs, this quest will give you a map which is very important. The species of wolves you must kill to collect these fangs should appear in yellow on the radar at the top right of the screen. Now, go east towards the trees instead of heading to town, and there should be some wolves to kill, get ready! It's your first kill! Press f2 like we said when you have targeted the monster, and you should see your character start casting a ball of wind at your opponent. The blue bar represents the length of time the skill is taking. You should kill your target in one hit, however you may not. If it has a very low amount of hp left, don't bother trying to cast your wind strike again, instead just click on it again to attack it with your weapon, and it should die fairly easy. This saves you that precious mp it costs to cast wind strike. Now, keep killing these guys until you collect 4 fangs, whenever you collect a fang a bell should ring telling you that you have collected another fang (It will make a different sound when you have collected 4 fangs). Note that the wolves in this area are known as keltir, they differentiate in the villages for each race. Now, by now you should have killed enough keltir to hear the special bell sound which indicates you have all 4 fangs. To double check, click on inventory again, and click "quest" tab and click on the fang. A number in brackets tells you how many you have collected. If it says 4, return to the guard that you started this quest from. Once you reach this guard, he will tell you to give a certain item to Nerupa (I can't remember the item exactly). This is easy since Nerupa is right there, and you can see it as a yellow dot on radar. When you give it the item, it will give you a world map which displays your location on the world.

Chapter 3 (The world map, chat, and getting to level 5.)

You know have your world map, this item can be very useful when you get lost, because it makes it so easy to navigate back home. In chronicle 1 (The first patch) They changed the map so that it now has your position on it. Pretty handy when you die and want to be resurrected from death by someone, it will be much easier for them to find you. Now, we are on the region of Aden, another region exists called Elmore, Elmore is the home of the Dwarves and Orcs. The only way you can visit this other region is to teleport there (Explained later). The elves and the dark elves have a conflict, however most people in the game don't care to much for this conflict, and wont kill each other, it just affects the game in small ways (like if u die near the dark elf lands, you get teleported to elf land if your elf, and vice versa for dark elves.).

Now, its time to learn how to use the chat menu. You may have already noticed it at the bottom right of the screen. Well, this is how you communicate to other players in the game. There are tabs for available channels. For instance, party chat, trade, all, alliance, clan. The only one we need to know at the moment is the all one, people from close by and far away use this one for general chat. The orange text are shouts, and the white is close by. Time for your first shout, type in !Hello Lineage 2. Remember that the exclamation mark is important because it is what makes you shout it. You may have already noticed that your characters name, and your shout appear in the window. Congratulations on your first few words! Most people shout trades instead of using the trade window itself. If you see anyone shouting WTB, or WTS, This means they are willing to sell, willing to buy the item. But remember, your too low of a level to begin trading yet.

You may have noticed already that Nerupa told you to visit a advisor in town and he appears as a yellow dot on radar. Don't do that yet, instead keep killing the wolves near Nerupa until you reach level 5. This might take awhile, but it shouldn't take more than an hour. If you die, you will get teleported to town, and try and find your way back, just go down the gate towards the north. It shouldn't be too difficult. If you ever need to heal your mp you can just sit down. And remember about the self heal magic you have whenever u have low hp.

Now that you have reached level 5, time to do a few starter quests to get you some money. Remember that yellow dot on the screen? You can visit him now if you wish, he can give you some useful information about the game, your character, and whatnot. Once you are finished talking to him, it's time to get our first few quests so that we have enough money to upgrade our weapon to the next wand. The first quest you should do is called "What women want." Here are the steps you must undertake.

  1. Talk to Arujien, he will be standing on the wesetern side of the village.

  2. Take to the gatekeeper on the southeast edge of town.

  3. Talk to Trader Herbtien, he should be in the magic shop near the west of town near the gate.

  4. Talk to Arujien. If you tell him to forget about her, he will give you 450 adena and the quest ends. If you explain to him greenis may like him, he gives you a poetry book. Finish the quest now by telling him to forget about her, because the next few steps are not worthwhile.

There, your first quest done. You now have 450 adena more in your wallet. We need about 900 to pay for our next wand. Time for the next available quest, this one is titled. "Fruit of the mothertree." This quest is good because it gets you familiarized with the area.

  1. Talk to Andellria, southeast of the tree in the Elven village, she will give you a letter to take to Thayla.

  2. Take the letter to Thalya. Find her by exiting the gate southeast, Following the path, passing two bridges, then the ruins, and then around the lakeshore to the observatory. She will take the letter and give you The Mothertree's Fruit.

  3. Return to the village and give the fruit to Andellria.

You get 500 adena and 1000 exp for this one. Return back to town, you should now head to the weapons shop. A great way to find it is to go to the gate southwest, then go along the top part of the village, pass the magic shop, then pass 1 more building, and there should be a building with a shield sign. This is the weapons shop. Talk to trader Unoren and select "mage equipment" and buy the Apprentice's Rod. You now have a new weapon that should make a little bit of a difference in damage, now if you have enough money left over for a shield, buy one, otherwise it doesn't matter.

Now the last quest you should do, cross your fingers and hope that you get an emerald from this. The steps....

  1. Talk to Pixy Murika.

  2. Hunt The gray wolves and red keltirs nearby until you get 100 Preditor's Fangs.

  3. Give the fangs to Pixy Murika and she will reward you with a Shard Of Glass (100a), Onyx (300a), or an Emerald (5000a).

Well, either way you got something. Sell it to the magic shop in town to get a little bit of extra cash. By this time you should be about level 7 or almost level 7. In the next chapter we will be covering how to reach level 8. And at level 8 we will be killing new things, as well as some new skills!

Chapter 4 (New skills! New monster! New gear!)

By now you should be close to level 7, or level 7. The next little brief part is for people still under level 7.

Well, you still haven't gotten level 7, level 7 is important to mages because they get to use their skill points to get new magic at level 7. Anyways, lets get level 7. Fight kaboo orcs that are west of town. They should drop decent adena, and level you to 7. Once you reach level 7, Rejoice! Time to choose some skills! Depending on how many skillpoints you have, you will be able to choose skills. For now I recommend leveling wind strike to level 3, or as high as you can get it. Still got skillpoints left over? Then go to the magic shop and buy a ice bolt spellbook from the trader on the right I believe. Ice bolt isn't as strong as wind strike, but slows the enemies movement down slightly so that you can kite them (Run away, shoot wind strike again before they hit you, again and again).

Now that that's done, it should be much easier to kill monsters :P! Well, if your like me, you're probably sick and tired of killing these puny little wolves. It's time for a real fight (Not really, I'm just trying to rattle you up). Get ready were going to fight these little green things called green dryads! They make annoying noises and are fun to kill, kite these (Wind strike, run, Wind strike, run, etc etc so that you don't get hit.). Try and kill about 100 of them, there is a 1% chance you will get feriotic stockings. Which means a lot less money to spend on stockings, because these are worth about 1700 adena.

You might be level 8 by now, im not sure. But continue killing these guys until you reach level 8, because there is a quest at level 8, which makes you very ritch, very fast (Not really, but for a beginner it seems fast.) Once you reach level 8, return to town. If you have enough money to buy yourself a new tunic, do so. Buy a feriotic tunic, these are priced at 3k or so. Remember you should of gotten a stocking drop from those dryads, if you did not, continue killing them until you do. Because like I said, this saves you some money. If you have some skill points you think that you could spend on ice bolt, do it now because it will make the next quest much easier.

The next quest you will be doing is repeatable, and very useful for Elves. This one quest makes elves the fastest money making class at level 8.

  1. Talk to the Trader Herbtien in the Elven Village, he will be in the elven magic shop.

  2. Hunt Spore Fungus (lvl 9 passive) until you collect the 10 fungus sacs needed to complete this quest, to find them exit the village towards the southwest, follow the path, then head south from the crossroad, and you will see them.

  3. Give the 10 sacs to Trader Herbtien.

  4. Repeat.

Continue doing this quest for a long time. Do this quest until you reach level 10, you have the option of packing a scroll of escape to make the quest easier. However, since they are so close to town this is not needed. Once you reach level 9 from these monsters, you should have enough money to buy yourself the next staff, the willow staff. Buy it because it will make the next quest easy. Yes, we have another quest to do. And this one is pretty hard, so be prepared to die. But this quest gives you a very valuable staff.

  1. Sentinel Kendel at the southeastern Exit tells you to hunt special orcs for this quest, open up your quest inventory, the item should tell you which orc to kill.

  2. Kill the Correct chief to gain the Orc Torc 1. Here is a list of all the orcs and their locations. Do a /loc to check your coordinates.

    1. Kaboo Chief Uoph. Near /loc 21000,41000. Southwest exit to crossing, then north and east.

    2. Kaboo Chief Kracha. Near /loc 34000,62000. Southwest exit and head south.

    3. Kaboo Chief Batoh. Near /loc 29000,79000. Near the Elf dungeon.

    4. Kaboo Chief Tanukia. Near /loc 21000,57000. Soutwest exit to crossroads, look southwest.

  3. Give the Torc 1 to sentinel Kendell, he will assign you to a new orc to kill.

  4. Hunt the appropriate orc for the Torc 2. Here is a list:

    1. Kaboo Chief Turel. Near /loc 40000,69000. Southwest exit, head due south and cross the river.

    2. Kaboo Chief Roko. Near /loc 33000,79000. West of the lake, east of Elven Dungeon.

    3. Kaboo Chief Kamut. Near /loc 46000,89000. Southeast exit, all the way around the lake to south side.

    4. Kaboo Chief Murika. Near /loc 57000,77000. Southeast exit, cross 2 bridges, 2nd ruins on left.

  5. Return to Sentinel Kendell with the Torc 2.

The /loc command is useful for this one, because it makes it easier to find the monsters you have to kill. Usually, these kaboo orc chiefs have pets that attack for them. Kill the pets first because they do almost as much damage as the chief himself. If the chief is an archer be very careful, mages die very easily to archers. In such a case you might want to get healing potions, however I doubt you would need them. Now, your red sunset staff will not make a large difference in damage but you will have some side money now because you can sell that old willow staff. Shout WTS willow staff, if after 30 minutes no one responds you can just sell it. However, if you have the time to set up a private store, I recommend doing that. This is a great option if you can leave your computer on after night. Sell the willow staff for 9500a.

Now that that is done, it is time to get you new robes. Go back and do the spore quest about 10 times, I know this sounds rather tedious, but you will get enough money to upgrade to the devotion set, a great set by the way because it gives you 15% casting speed more. The devotion set will be rather pricey, save up enough to buy the tunic, and then buy the stockings afterwards, to complete the set you will need to buy the leather gloves. You can try and find a seller of these item by shouting WTB devotion or looking at the private stores in town, but usually you wont find people. Meanwhile level up your magic as much as possible. The next skill after ice bolt should be heal.

Chapter 5 (A path to much more fun!)

Now I am not sure what level you are, but if your around level 11 or so, I recommend continuing west of town until you find some orcs (Should be white). And kill these until you reach level 12. Because at level 12 we can get a new staff from a quest. By this time the old spore quest wont seem as worthwhile as it used to be, so don't worry about doing it anymore, you wont need to soon.

The next quest you have to do is to cure all the sentinels of their illnesses by collect dryad tears.

  1. Sentinel Knight Alberryus wants you to help with the Sentinel's illness., he is in front of the building with the trainers in the Elven Village.. He will give you Alberryus's Letter.

  2. Go to Master Cobendell and give him the letter, he is in the main building beside the trainers. He will give you the Evergreen Amulet.

  3. Hunt both dryad's until you collect 10 Dryad's Tears. They are located at the southwest village exit just past the crossroads on the left and out the southeast exit and past a few bridges.

  4. Return to Master Cobendell. He will give you 5 Cobendell's Medicines, these medicines are for the Sentinels.

  5. Talk to Alberryus again. He will grab one of the 5 medicines, and ask you to deliver the other 4 to other sentinels.

  6. One to Sentinel Gartrandell, on the same platform as Alberryus.

  7. One to Sentinel Veltress at the southeastern village exit.

  8. One to Sentinel Berryos at the north village exit.

  9. One to Sentinel Rayjien at the southwest village exit.

  10. Go back to sentinel Knight Alberryus to receive your staff.

The quest will sound long and tedious, and it is, but in the end you make 20k and that makes it worthwhile. Its good to pack scroll of escapes for this quest. And in fact, by now you should start using them. Now that you have done this quest, time to just work on leveling. There is a quest you could do now however, that gets you a bone shield, but it involves making a party. And quests aren't really worthwhile in parties, your best bet is to leave the quest along until level 15. Remember now too to upgrade your skills again, you should be very close to having all your skills maxed out. Soon, level 14 will come, and you will need to use more skillpoints. Fight the orcs and dryads to the west of town past the crossroad now, until you reach level 14. This may take awhile, once you hit 14, Scroll of escape back to town, and learn your new skills. You get some cool new skills, get everything excluding wind shackle, but get battle heal up 1 level first, then try and max out wind strike you may notice that it costs a lot more mp, but you will get used to it. Battle heal is very useful. Now, about that party for the bone shield, leveling to 14 made forming the party much easier. While in town shout Looking for level 12+ people to do the bone shield quest with. Depending on the time of day, this might be easy, hard, difficult. Here is what you have to do.

  1. First, talk to trader Unoren in the Elven Village magic shop.

  2. Go into the elven fortress. Bring 2-3 friends if you are doing this quest at level 12, as all monsters attack you in groups.

  3. Hunt Skeletons (any type) and eventually get 10 bone fragments.

  4. Hunt Mist Terrors, watch out these guys are aggresive, and collect 3 elf skulls. To find them go farther into the dungeon.

  5. Return to trader Unoren to collect your prize.

Sounds easy, but just wait until you have to do it, you'll definitely be changing your mind in just a few minutes. The Elven fortress is a very tricky place, almost all the mobs are aggressive (attack you when they see you). Fight in groups, and are quite strong. Hopefully, in your party formation you got a nice tank, double check that everyone has a resurrection scroll, they come in handy. Take your time with this quest, make a few friends, and make sure that everyone gets the items they need. This is proper etiquette in Lineage 2. You may find this quest to take a long time, and if someone has all their items, make sure that they don't get the final kills anymore, the deciding factor in who gets the quest item is whoever kills off the monster. So, you have to always keep that in mind. Remember to continue healing your tank, unless you have another mage in your party, in this case you have to decide who heals, who uses offensive magic. But remember, if you see your party members hp go down to a dangerous level, help heal him/her.

When you finish this quest, you may not know what to do with the bone shield considering that you have a staff, store it in your warehouse in town, (See picture). Simply deposit in private warehouse. Because when the time comes for you to afford your 90k Tears of Eva weapon, you will need a bone shield to go with it (It's a book 1 handed.).

Now chances are your still level 14, not a problem, but by now you should really concentrate on getting more money, sell your staff to the shop if u have 25000-3000 adena handy. Then look for a cedar staff. Its good to check that you will have enough money for the next weapon. If you don't a good place to head to now is Gludio, its south of the map, travel there and remember to bring a scroll of escape. When you past the water and get towards Cruma tower, then scroll of escape and you should end up in Gludio. Exit the west entrance and continue down the path, then turn left as soon as possible. You should see zombies on the hill, kill all the zombies around there, they are nice targets for mages. Once you get enough money for a cedar staff (40k (Remember to check how much your staff is worth the store then sell it and make sure you have enough money in hand)) Start shouting WTB cedar staff, it might take a long time to secure one, but it will make a little bit of a difference in your damage. Continue killing Zombies until you reach level 17. This might take a long time, but is worthwhile. If you ever get enough sp for another skill, head to the church in the north of Gludio , there are elven trainers inside that will teach you skills.

Chapter 6 (The final chapter before changing to a wizard.)

Chances are by level 17 you can afford a 100k weapon, lets needn't worry about your armor until you reach level 20, as long as your careful, it shouldn't really matter. The next weapon you need to get is a Tears of Eva. Remember that bone shield? Now is the time to equip it. Secure a buyer of your cedar staff, sell it to them, then look for a tears of eva with your shout WTB tears of eva. Usually they aren't hard to find. And I have seem them for 80k, however 85k is the normal. Now, you will definitely notice an improvement in damage. And I expect that these zombies you've been killing will be a tad bit to easy. You have two options, stay and kill these zombies, or go to the ruins of despair. I recommend you do both, stay at killing the zombies until you reach level 18, then proceed to the ruins of despair.

To get to the ruins of despair, go through the southern exit of Gludio, then make sure you have your map open, align yourself with the entrance to Ruins of Despair, then go west until you find its entrance. Instead of going into the entrance, go north and follow the wall, you should find a grouping of scavenger bats, ruin imps, etc. Kill the ruin imps and bats and nothing more, they give the best exp out of all the monsters. Continue killing these guys until you reach level 19. You will find these guys a little to easy for you when you reach level 19, and your skills will be maxed out. Too bad, you're at the worst level of them all, stuck in between. Continue killing them until your about 30% into your level. Now, it is time for that Elven wizard quest! You can take your quests at level 19, but you will not become a wizard until you reach level 20.

Chapter 7 (The Wizard Quest, and making a small amount of side cash)

Here it is, the quest you have been waiting for, time to be a wizard.

Remember, this quest is quite time consuming, pack 3 scrolls of escape and a haste potion.

  1. Elven Wizard Class change, Talk to Rosella in the Elven Village, she explains that you must grab 4 different coloured jewels which represent the elements.

  2. Talk to Rosella and receive a letter and Peridot, this is the first element.

  3. Talk to a magic trainer in the village, he will tell you to kill pincer spiders.

  4. Kill pincer spiders until you collect 5 Red down.

  5. Talk to Rosella, she will give you an appetizing apple.

  6. Speak to Thalia, she can be found by going through the southeastern gate, and following the trail, until your on the east side of the lake, look in the west direction while you walk south, until you see a small little structure, she will be inside.

  7. Kill dryads and get 5 golden leaf.

  8. Return to Thalia and recieve the pure aquamarine.

  9. Speak to Rosella at the Elf city.

  10. Speak with Norwind, he should be near the elven fortress entrance.

  11. Hunt the sukar wererats, and Sukar wererat leaders inside the dungeon, they are deep in so be careful. You will need two amethyst from them.

  12. Speak to Norwind to get another jewel.

  13. Finally, speak with Rosella, gems will dissapear and you will get an eternity diamond.

The last step is to travel to the High Priest in the Gludio church, and change occupations, but you cannot fulfill this part until you reach level 20. At the moment you probably feel quite broke, because at this time you should come close to getting your 230k weapon. Don't worry about it, its fine, you will get the money soon. Head back to the ruins of despair and continue killing the monsters there, this may be quite a tedious procedure but you will thank yourself in the end, you'll rake in more money this way. Once you hit 20, Proceed to the church and change occupations.

Chapter 8 (Elven wizard!)

Well, pat yourself on the back! You did it! You're a wizard! Congratulations. It's time to have some fun. By now if you can get a mage staff or a voodoo doll. If you still don't have enough money, continue killing those scavenger bats and ruin imps in the ruins of despair. Otherwise, go back to the elven lands and hunt lireins. If you find that the lireins are too crowded, you can always hunt stuff in the swamps of the dark elf lands. And remember, you have that new skill Flame strike, it makes it all the more easier to kill these guys in one big boom! It's so fun! Try it! Now, this guide only covers level 20, your on your own from now in! Good luck, have a great adventure! PS: Focus on getting a 700,000 adena mage weapon, like a sword of occult for example. Don't worry about your equipment, but when have done this, get the magic gear, then the knowledge set, then the mithril mage. Make sure you farm like hell; because that's a lot of money you got to save up. Once again, Good luck on your many adventures and remember to have fun!

The Dark Elf Guide: For New Players, by Xelsynna

Dark Elf with the moon in the backdrop

Notes: All though this guide focuses on Dark Elves, new players of all races should be able to find some of the information provided useful, especially light elves. I was going to add a tutorial for the elves, but unfortunately I ran out of time. Generally, I will be doing this from fighters' standpoints, but mystics can follow along, as I will be making references to them throughout. They generally will follow the same walkthroughs as fighters.

Also, know that even though this is a guide, it does not mean it is 'the best possible way ever' to get your character through Lineage II; hopefully it'll at least help you to find your own niche in the game during the early stages.

This guide will cover everything from basic game functions to walkthroughs that'll help dark elf players level from 1-15. It will also give advice, tips, and information not covered in the Lineage II game instructions. First, I will start out with elementary basics about how the game is set up and functions. To skip this part and go to the leveling guide, just scroll down until you find the individual walkthroughs.

FOR OTHER RACES!

If I were you, I would read through the game set ups, fighting strategies, and hot-bar techniques because you will all generally use the same set-up. The mobs will be different, and so will some skills and the starting locations, but other than that, every race has the same basic starting weapon/skill/magic scenarios. Via the lineage websites, learn your race's highlights and weak-points, and observe the skills and classes available to you.

Setting Up:

Settings Screen

You put in your log in name and password; take time to read the announcements that pop up before you are directed to the servers. Servers are all basically the same: if you have a slow connection or computer, observe the ping for the servers during the daytime or at night (not many people are on early). The higher the ping, the more lag the server will be prone to.

Just keep in mind the ping changes throughout the day. Also, look at the options. I keep the music off (it's awesome to listen to, but it'll save you some lag), and leave the sound FX on (so you care hear things approaching you or things nearby), then go to your visual options and you will see "lower detail." If your computer runs slow, you should probably keep this checked. Your vision will be hindered and the scenery won't be there, but you'll be less likely to lag and die. You can toggle this in the game, too. I usually keep it off unless I am playing on LAN with someone else, or entering a crowded city such as Gludio.

Character Select Screen

You do not want to work on multiple characters, but you don't want to get stuck with one character you do not like. Try a few out first, then see which you like the most and work on it. Create your character, give it a name, and then enter the world of Lineage.

Game Basics:

Ok, this stuff is probably all covered in the manual: read it, and know what your icons signify and what they do.

  • Tool Icons:

  • Tool IconsYou will find this on your screen whenever you load the game. You can move it around if you'd like by clicking on the little bar on the left and dragging it. You will be using your mouse mainly to move around. Hold right click and rotate to get different camera angles, the middle mouse scroll button will zoom in and out, and you select where you want your character to run to by left kicking. The following are the tool icons (above picture) when opened. Remembering the hot keys to open them will prove to be very useful.

  • Character Status:

Character Status MenuYour character status tells you lots of things about your character. Just take the time to look over it. Your attack, defense, evasion, attack speed, and accuracy will perhaps be your most crucial stats. When deciding on a weapon, make sure that it makes more stats go up than down. For example, don't buy a weapon that's 15 attack damage stronger, but weakens your evasion in half. Same thing with armor.

As a dark elf, you will want to use your evasion, attack, and accuracy the most-especially if you want the assassin class. You will build up defense as a knight, but you will not have better defense modifications than other knight classes.

Armor will impact your evasion (except helms, boots, and gloves). Wearing a shield will also impact your evasion.

  • Actions:

Actions MenuDo not worry about your clan actions-this will not be important until you're over level 20 and have joined a clan (you can make a clan at level 10, but you'll have no way to support one financially or via your SP).

Become familiar with your actions; the ones that I've marked in red you will probably be using the most, with the exception of trade and invite.

Another nifty action is the /target name technique. If you know that there is a player killer running about, you can type in his/her name and know exactly where they are, so long as that they are in your range. When in town, remember the names of certain NPCs (non-player characters) that will help you locate them again later with the target command.

  • Skills:

Skills MenuYou should move as many skills into your hot bar as you can, so that they are there for quick use when you need them.

Passive skills are those that you use without having to spend MP (magic points).

Make sure you get skills that you will NEED; you can figure this out by determining what job transfer you wish to make at level 20, and what skills that job will give you. (Check the skills out on one of the lineage websites: warcry, orphus, etc. The addresses are provided at the bottom of this guide.)

Keep in mind that mortal blow, a dagger skill, has a greater chance of hitting an enemy when struck from behind, when you get it.

  • Quests:

Quests MenuAgain, check out the quests lists and the levels you can obtain them at on the sites listed below. Quests will earn you some extra cash and XP. I've mentioned only the ones I think are really worth while, but you might think otherwise.

Even though you do not get much adena for the imp quests, you have to kill the imps anyway, so you might as well make some extra money on it while you can. Keep this in mind for all quests that offer some extra adena for killing mobs you already are intending to kill.

The quests give you descriptions, but usually the descriptions aren't very helpful in telling you where you need to go. Again, use the websites for help.

  • The Chat Window:

Chat Window"Your have", nice typo. Anyway, you'll notice several options here.

To type to a large area, hit the ! first, your text will appear in orange.

To type to people nearby you, just write normally, your text will appear in white.

I never use the trade tab, you can if you want to.

The party tab will have you speak to those who are grouped with you, which will appear in green text.

Clan of course, is for clans to chat, and alliance is the tab for those clans who are allied.

    Simple, right?

To send a private message, type "name and then your message. This will appear in purple.

  • Things they do not tell you in the manual:

    WTS = want to sell

    WTB = want to buy

    DE = Dark Elf

DE V = Dark Elven Village

    Mobs = monsters

SoDa = School of Dark Arts

    KS = kill steal

    PK = Player Kill

NPC = Non-playable character (computer characters)

Bots = programs that run characters using macros so that they can farm adena faster. Yell all you want at them, they won't respond.

The Path of War-Combat:

PK / Griefing:

Player Killing

All players should be wary: Pkers are frequent (at least on the Kain server: this is the only one I've played on) among dark elves, and they spawn all around the village-which includes the area where you are. I never ran into many around the Elven Village (when I did, they were usually outside the west exit or farther down the roads), but my experience won't necessarily be yours, so be careful. A PKer, player killer, will be noted because they a) have their name in bright-red, and b) are probably running right at you or someone else. If you can, run to the village entrance (the guards will attack PKers, and the village itself is a safe-zone), into the temple (for dark elves), a bloody pixie, or a treant. (Pixies and Treants will attack PKers like the sentries will, but note that treants are very slow, and will not be able to protect you from someone with a bow. See pics below. ^^)

Pixie Treant

Also, if you are HIT by anyone, do NOT hit them back. I learned this the hard way, as I'm sure many people have. Characters usually will strip down to nothing, and smack you with their fists to try and get you to hit them back-if you do, they will then throw their equipment back on, and kill you without fear of turning red. This is called griefing. This also goes for people who are standing around in groups-they are waiting for you to hit their friend back so they can all attack you. It is better to just ignore them and go about your business.

To hit another player, or something like a treant or sentry, you must hold down ctrl, then attack.

It goes like this:

Purple Player Name

When you hit someone who isn't red, you turn purple; it only lasts several moments after you have struck someone. It is much harder to recover from being red. During this time of purple-ness, however, you are vulnerable to attack by anyone, and they will not suffer a penalty for killing you (other than perhaps making themselves vulnerable, for they will turn purple, also). Now, say someone turns purple, but the other person doesn't hit them back, and then, the purple person kills the white one? Ah, now he is red. All characters who die, regardless of their color, will risk dropping items and equipment upon their deaths-however, a purple person has a higher chance of doing so, and a red person has the highest risk.

Keep in mind, whenever you're in a group, you will become whatever your party members become. So if someone kills someone who is white, you will consequently turn red: guilty by association. So it is always wise to know who is on your team. Another recent feature of C1, is that if you are a healer, and assist someone who is fighting, you will turn purple as well. Be extra careful: if you heal someone who is fighting a bunch of mobs, the mobs are likely to all turn on you. I discovered this the hard way. :P

Now, back to red-ness.

If you turn red, you risk losing your equipment, blah blah, and everyone you come across will probably try to kill you. You will spawn outside the village, with no way of getting in (unless you get the silent move skill at a much higher level). It really isn't worth it, unless you do not care about your character dying until he is useless, because he will eventually delevel (see below).

When you kill as a red, you gain karma. The more karma you have, the harder it is to work it off. The only way to work off karma is by either a) dying, or b) killing mobs. However, you will be so busy dodging people trying to kill you that you will find it difficult to kill mobs in peace.

It is also not a good idea to try and play "hero." If you see someone attacking someone else, don't think that the two of you are going to bring down the enemy together. They could just be friends, and if you go and attack one of them without knowing what you're getting into, they could both turn and attack you.

Multiple PvP

The Chrono Cithara wars-some people like to have fun, but just approach with caution. One moment you're having fun, the next, someone's killed you. If some higher level decided to come by and cast a nuke (area damage) and kill everyone, there'd be some very unhappy faces. Fortunately, there are some good humored people.

One last note, is a new griefing method people have been using. A high level person will hit a low level, and turn purple, then, they will open up a shop. If one of the low levels unknowingly clicks on the shop to see what it is offering, they will automatically attack the person, thus turning them purple. The griefer will then hop up and kill you. This happens because if the person is purple, you automatically will hostile them.

KS - Stealing Kills

Bad things happen to people who steal kills. People don't seem to appreciate it.

Be careful of stealing people's kills-if it's on accident, apologize to let the person know you didn't purposely kill their target. Stealing people's targets will get you into trouble, and aside from that, it's just a sign of being inconsiderate. Everyone is trying to level, and there are plenty of mobs for everyone to kill. If someone steals your kill once, let it slide; if they continually do it, you should turn the other cheek and move onto another area-when you're a higher level, you'll be able to do something about it. Be aware of what level other players are on before attacking them-just because they look like a new player doesn't mean they are. Many people delevel their characters.

Deleveling --

You will see people attacking the guards so that they will die. (Usually, they are adena farmers-people who farm the game currency and sell it on places like Ebay--. but not always). The purpose of this is, the closer the mobs are to their level, the more they will drop in items and adena. The problem is, a person who is level 30 deleveled to level 4 will still have their skills and possibly their equipment-which they cannot drop at level 4. So just be careful, and avoid confrontations. Killing other players won't earn you levels (you'll most likely be losing them), and that is all you should be concerned with as of now.

Battle Strategy:

Before we go on with the walkthroughs, I'm going to introduce you to some simple battle concepts that'll hopefully make things easier for you.

Make sure to check out the section below in the Dark Elf Guide on using your hot bars. With hot bars, you will be able to switch quickly between different skills and spells, and alter your weapons so that you can fight efficiently.

  • Kiting

If you're a mage or an archer, you will be able to use this to your advantage. Even if you do not qualify as either, using strictly daggers or swords, you still might gain from learning about this.

The first key is to know what moves fast, and what moves slowly. The best way to figure this out is via experimentation. Elves are the fastest runners in the game (fighters being faster than mystics) but regardless you will be able to outrun most mobs early on.

First, attack with your bow, pelting your enemy until it comes with your range. You then have two options: you can either run back out of the enemy's range and continue shooting it with your bow, or, you can switch using your hot bar to attack with either your dagger or your sword. Mortal Blow, the dagger skill, works best from behind, but sometimes works from the front, too.

If you're a mystic, you can use a similar technique. Hit the enemy with ice bolt, when you get it, then hit it with wind strike. Depending on how much damage you did, you can either run back and hit it with another spell, or you can attack it with your melee weapon. You can queue magical spells, but you have to hit the next skill after the first has started.

If you have a sword only, kiting will not work too well. Get a shield, when you can afford it (some mobs drop them), and it will absorb some of the damage you're going to be taking. Also, you can purchase soul shots (non grade soul shots are 8a from the store, 9a from players), but can grow quite expensive, so you probably shouldn't purchase them until you take care of your other equipment first. To use a soul shot, click and drag the icon from your inventory and put it on your hot bar (f3 works along with the set up I provide later), then hit the F key. Your weapon will ignite, and when you attack with it, you will do extra damage. You get one per attack. Do NOT spam them. If you're fighting targets that require you to spam, fight weaker mobs that will not waste your energy-and adena. Spamming is useful however when you are near death.

Spirit shots are like Soul shots, except they're for mages. Blessed Spirit Shots are more powerful spirit shots for mages (keep in mind, fighters get magic spells, too-spirit shots will work for them).

Bots:

Chinese Bot

Dun Dun Dun! Many people complain about bots and adena farmers. The difference? One will respond, and the other, who is controlled by a program and not a person, will not. Adena farmers steal kills and will hit you. At first I thought they weren't so horrible-that they'd leave you be if you leave them be, but it's just not true. I realized this when I reached my late level 20's. One trip to the wastelands, and we had three adena farmers whom we had to kill over and over again. They will sting you (unlike the skill bleed, sting does not require the other player to be hostile) and you will lose your health as you gush blood, so you cannot fight. The adena farmers are generally deleveled level 40s, so they have some pretty powerful skills and mods, so I had to get a whole group to get rid of them. Unfortunately, killing them only helps them to delevel, so it's not even worth going after them. All one can really do is just leave their area or farm when they're not around. What they're doing is illegal, but that's up to the GMs to deal with, not you. Try to kill 'em if you want, but just don't complain if they kill you, too. Yelling obscenities, carrying on like an idiot, and spouting racial slurs will get you no where. Just focus on what you have to do, and leave them to their business. Remember that if people weren't buying their adena, they wouldn't have a business to begin with-so blame your peers who are running around with C grade equipment they cannot even wear yet, not them. :P

On one final note, in case you have not figured this out:

Adena

Adena; get it

while you can,

and spend it

wisely! $$$$$

Notes: Just remember, everyone is out for themselves. Do not lend people your adena, or show them your equipment in the trade menu, or anything of the sort. People beg all the time for money: but just remember, they can get adena faster farming than begging, just like you had to.

Now, onto the walkthrough!:

Starting Out:

Starting as a Dark Elf

Ok, so you're a Dark Elven fighter, and as such, you start out in the temple east of the Dark Elven Village. Your first goal is to get your map, which you can get by speaking to one of the Abyssals and getting the quest to hunt Keltirs and get their fangs.

The Hot Bar - The Key to Fast Reaction (Elves, follow this, too)

The Hot Bar

Take the time to get your hot bar established-it will make things easier for you. As either a dark elf or elf fighter, you get a squire sword and a dagger: click on your sword and drag it over to your hot bar, so that it fills up slot f1. Then, put your dagger in the f5 slot. Go to your actions by selecting the status icon, and click-drag the icon to slot f9 that says "pick up" (or whatever it is). Then, put your attack icon into slot f4. Put your map in slot f10 for easy viewing purposes when you obtain it.

(Mages should use the same set up, but put your magic spells (wind strike and self heal) onto your hot bar, too.)

Bearded Keltirs

Now, when they say Bearded Keltirs, they mean Bearded. The other ones do not drop fangs. As soon as you go outside, stick somewhat near the temple and you should find plenty of Keltirs to hunt. The only way to kill them is just to hack away. You shouldn't have any trouble.

Attacking a Bearded Keltir

Fight! Learn to love the monotony of farming and leveling. The more effort, the more you'll achieve.

Finish the Tutorial

Return to the temple after the little message pops up telling you you've received all your fangs, and return them to the person you got the quest from. You will then receive your map and a potion that you must give to Mitraell and then, you will be directed to Guide Franz in the dark elven village. Do not bother visiting him until you have reached level 5 (or level 7, for mystics). You won't have enough SP (skill points) to get your new skills anyway.

Do not fight goblins or wolves; stick to the brown, young brown, and elder brown (the toughest) keltirs. If you find yourself resting every two minutes, you need to fight weaker things. If you need to rest, though, find a treant or a pixie to rest near, so that you will have something to protect you if a PKer happens upon you.

When you've reached level 5, go find Guide Franz who is indicated on your radar. After you've spoken to him and learned some things, go to the side of the hand that has the large stairwell and go into the building (I think at level 5/7 the masters will also be on radar for you to follow).

Radar Just follow the yellow dot. Purple dots will be characters you've selected.

Inside the Dark Elven Village:

Dark Elven Village

If you go straight from the temple entrance, you'll find a path to the village. When you go down the spiral path and descend into the area, you'll come down a small hill and end up by sellers like the picture above. To the left, you'll find the warehouse, and if you run between the warehouse and the other building, you'll find the gatekeeper.

The warehouse will become more useful later, don't bother storing anything yet. If you go to the hand, and hang a left, you'll see a large stairwell-go up it, and you will find yourself in the master's building.

Meet your Master

To your left, you will see Master Harant, and Magister Harne. Mystics will report to Harne for their skills, while fighters go to Harant. Only Dark Elves may train in the Dark Elven Village. If you go to the Elven Village, you will not find any trainers but elves-and if you are at the Elven Village, and you die, you will respawn back in the Dark Elven Village, not the Elven Village. The place that trains both races (including humans, dwarves, and orcs) is Gludio Castle Town.

  • For future reference, the magic shop (symbolized by a potion) is at the bottom of the stairs on the left.

  • The Weapon Shop is symbolized by two swords crossed over a shield, and is found across from the magic shop. In most towns, they are on opposite sides of one another.

  • When you're in Gludio, or any other foreign town (Gludin, Dion) the Dark Elf trainers will be found in a building marked by a sword and a crescent moon.

Go to Master Harant and learn your skills, at this point you will probably only be able to get power strike.

Learn Power Strike

Ok, here are the skills you should work on depending on what class you wish to obtain:

Assassin -

  • Assassins use dagger and bow skills. At level 40, you must choose between Abyss Walker (dagger class) and Phantom Ranger (bow class).

  • Spend your SP on mainly mortal blow, armor & weapon masteries, and power shot (don't worry about this until you buy a bow).

Knight -

  • Pallus Knights rely on swords and heavy armor. At level 40 you will become a Shillien Knight.

  • SP will be spent on your power strike, armor, and weapon masteries-it might, however, become monotonous using one weapon, so if you want to put your SP into a bow, go for it, however, you will not receive any bow skills when you are level 20. Buy a short sword when you can at 800 something adena, then when you're level 11 or so, do the quest for the blood saber (it's equivalent if not stronger than the broadsword, so do not waste your adena on the broadsword).

Mystics -

  • There are two main paths to go as a mystic: either defensive (Oracle) or offensive (Wizard); see the list of classes and skills on the sites mentioned below.

  • Spend your SP first on ice bolt (this'll slow your enemies down, enabling you to kite them easily), then wind strike, then do your armor/weapon masteries. Then do healing, etc.

  • You will note that there are many higher level mystics who are equipped in swords-they think that they have better damage this way, but they don't. A mystic should wear mystic equipment which complements his evasion, weight capacity, and magic power. (Some swords though are made for mystics, and have high magic attack power).

All classes should also get their aura defense/attacks; they're not crucial right away, but come in handy.

(Again, for more information on classes and job transfer quests, look at the websites.)

Back to Hunting!

Ok, now you're level 5/7, with your newb equipment, and need to level. Start to go toward the west entrance; when you get to the top of the hill-thing, talk to the sentry on the left who should offer you a quest to kill imps. Get it.

Imp Quest

Then, go out the west entrance of the dark elven village, then go directly to the left, where you will find a cove that has lots of low level mobs for you to slaughter and gain XP to level 8-10.

Mob Locations

There are lots of imps, which will give you adena when you bring them in for the quest. Be careful, though, the goblins and imps will attack enmasse if you hit ones that are too close to one another. Imps are slow, you can probably outrun them, but the goblins are faster.

If this area isn't sufficient enough, go down the path that leads to the swamps, but turn right once you reach the tower which is known as the "imp tower." There are some tougher mobs there. I marked the areas that you should go hunt in.

Along the coast north of the area I circled for you, you will also find Blood Fungus-they might be tough for you at this point, but keep in mind that they're there later on. They weren't there until C1, and I never noticed this until recently when I took my new mage there.

Buying Equipment: All players should check out this section!

I'm not sure on how much adena you will have accumulated by the time you are level 9, but when you have, see if you can get some better starter weapons. Do NOT worry about armor-you will probably find better equipment in mob drops. Weapons first, then armor.

Buying at the store

Buy what you can afford: if there is a player selling an item you want, check at the shop first and make sure they're not overpricing. The number one goal of sellers is to get their money back-and more, if possible, for what they paid for the item. Also, check out the shops and the weapon/armor lists on the lineage websites-use common sense; if a weapon has 15 attack, but costs twice as much than a weapon costing 14 attack, don't think that the more powerful weapon is worth the extra adena.

Instead, buy the cheaper one and save for a more expensive weapon later on. For example, the hunting bow goes for 45k from a player, and the forest bow goes for about 95-100k: they're about 15 attack dmg apart, but you're better off getting the hunting bow (keep in mind you'll need money for armor and a dagger and what not) and saving up your funds until you can buy a composition bow.

Composition Bow Throwing Knife

Take a look. The composition bow in the Dark Elven Village is being sold for 58,000 adena more than someone can get it in Gludio (200-220k, usually). It costs 3,700 adena to teleport to Gludio. Do the math. The Throwing Knife goes for 85k in Gludio. I would recommend going to Gludio before buying anything in an area like the Elven or Dark Elven Villages. But keep in mind, people in Gludio will try to scam you, too.

People tend to take advantage of new players, and will intentionally sell weapons that are not in the local village store overpriced.

Non-Grade is in reference to characters who are not yet level 20. Anything they wear or use must be non-grade. At level 20, you can use D grade equipment, then C, then B, then A, then S, etc. Make sure you don't buy the wrong grade equipment. For a bow, you must buy wooden arrows until you get a D Grade bow. By clicking on the item, it will tell you whether it is or is not non-grade.

Level Level Level:

The best way to level is quickly. It's better to kill lots of mobs for less experience, than to spend all your energy on killing higher level mobs slowly (also, you stand a higher risk of dying by fighting higher level mobs).

At level 9, get the spore fungus quest from vollodoss at the magic shop, and you can either hunt these by the imp tower, or go to the swamps. You can also get the orc quest from one of the sentries at the west entrance at this point. Stay away from the inner swamps if you wish to hunt there; hunt the orcs and the fungus on the outer rim. There are more fungus by the SoDa area, alongside the road (on the side closest to SoDa) and there will be plenty of things for you to hunt there.

Into the Swamps:

The Swamps

Luckily for you new players, the normal marsh zombies do not cast drain. This makes them way easier to kill than they were before. Be careful for the horrors that lurk around, because they're aggressive and don't stay in one place (so you might think one is too far away, but it might move towards you). If you rest anywhere but on the road, I would advise against going AFK. If not horrors, the Fighter Orc Leaders will certainly have a go at you. If you have your zombie quest you can kill the marsh zombies and get 10 skins for 2,00 adena and a healing potion (players will also charge you a ridiculous sum for these if you buy them from a private store. To avoid getting ripped off, just don't fight things that require constant healing potions. Get a few, and save them for emergencies).

Again, take care not to go too far into the swamps. Somewhere in the middle there is an altar that is surrounded by Dark Horrors (the lesser ones are closer to the land), Red Eye Bats (aggressive), and Marsh Zombie Lords (non aggressive but I believe they cast drain). On the outer rim you can fight Marsh Zombies, Festering Bats, and Lesser Dark Horrors (horrors being the only aggressive ones in this group).

PST! The Festering Bats tend to have some good drops, and are easy targets for archers and casters. ^^

Once hunting in this area becomes tedious or too easy, go to the SoDa grounds, where you will find Red eyes, Blood Fungi, and Stone Guardians/Soldiers (these have very good defense, bows are relatively ineffective against them).

SoDa - The School of Dark Arts

If you feel you must go to the School of Dark Arts, you should probably go with another person who can resurrect you, or at least pick up your items for you if you die (this doesn't mean they'll always give them back, though). If you choose to go alone, just take caution.

Need to be resurrected? Ask if anyone is able to 'rezz' you by asking the global chat. Be sure you can pay for one (roughly 2k). Be aware of where you are, so that you can direct someone to you. Type /target and their name, to see if they are nearby (a purple dot will appear on your radar) and you can direct them that way.

If you have your own scroll, you won't be able to use it (how lovely), so let the person know you can give them one to replace their own. To use a resurrection scroll, you must be in a person's party.

Fortunately, after you die, you are still able to target and invite people into your party. If you want to invite someone so that they can rezz you, first, type /target and their name so that their name is highlighted. Then, type /invite (you don't need to put their name in once they're targeted) and have them join your party. Then, all they need to do is simply click on your name and activate the scroll.

There are plenty of bots in SoDa, so don't get angry if things start taking your kills; bots often will hit back, and they're usually higher level than you are.

This area (at least on Kain) is very laggy, and could cause you some accidental deaths that you will be non-too-thrilled about, so be careful. If you're lagging badly, don't bother. And also, look out of trains-trains (a group of mobs chasing after someone) are usually gathered by either one high level person, or by some moron. DO NOT HELP THEM. If you hit one of the mobs, they might all come after you. Also, if the person dies, and you're nearby, they will also come after you next-so stay away from them.

Like mentioned before, the same goes for healers. If you heal someone with a train chasing them, the mobs will more than likely come after you.

At level 10 (14, for mystics) you will be able to get new skills.

Quests:

Aside from the quests I've already pointed out, there are only two others that I believe are worth doing. If you go to the lineage websites they will give you the steps on how to do them-also remember to look at the other available quests and see if any others are worth doing.

  • The Blood Saber:

    The Blood Sabre

This weapon brought me right to level 20. You should go in with a group to SoDa to be on the safe side, but if you choose to go solo, there is a hallway on the right near the entrance that you can wait in for this one skeleton to emerge-this is best if you have a bow, because then you can just keep attacking the one skeleton. However, this might take a long while. I never got the eldritch dagger, but it will also rake in some extra adena for you if you want to either sell it, or keep it and save yourself from having to spend all your adena on some other dagger.

Some Personal Advice:

Generally, I try to stay out of places like SoDa-the dungeons; they're good if you have a group, but when you try to solo, you get crowded out. There are also many anal CN farmers or other players that will give you a hard time and you end up getting distracted from your leveling.

Travel around if you find you're not leveling fast enough, and see what best benefits your character. People will tell you to level somewhere, but you might actually be better off somewhere else-so it's better to just go through trial and error.

Personally, I think groups aren't worth it until you're level 20+, because you can get more experience soloing, but if you think that you can level faster with someone's help, then knock yourself out. The benefit of groups is that if you die and drop something, they can pick it up for you-but just remember, that doesn't mean they will necessarily give it back. There are also slight experience bonuses for parties.

Once you get tired of the dark elven village area, you could try the "neutral zone." This is an area north of Gludio that has mobs such as spiders and crystalline beasts-they're cluttered also around the Altar of Rites (which, is also referred to as the Initiation Altar).

Well, that about does it. Thanks, especially to malefic, and to everyone who posed for me in the screenshots! I hope this guide will help you to get through Lineage II-enjoy the game!
